Selling Your Home in Mifflinburg, PA
Mifflinburg sits in the heart of Union County’s Buffalo Valley, where Route 45 (Chestnut Street) meets Routes 104 and 304, with West Buffalo, Limestone and Buffalo townships all around it. Lewisburg is about 9 miles east. Founded in 1792 by German settlers, the borough later earned the nickname “Buggy Town” when more than 50 buggy and sleigh factories operated here.
Christmas lights, buggies and back roads
Each December, downtown streets close for the Christkindl Market — wooden huts, German food, crafts and music, a tradition since 1988 and one of the oldest outdoor markets of its kind in the country. Summer brings Independence Day and Blueberries and Bluegrass, and fall brings Oktoberfest. The Mifflinburg Buggy Museum keeps the town’s history close, Penns Creek offers fishing and canoeing, and the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail runs through farm country all the way to Lewisburg. Students attend the Mifflinburg Area School District.
Who’s buying here
About 3,500 people live in the borough, in roughly 1,530 households. About one in five residents is under 18 and about one in five is 65 or older, and around two-thirds of homes are owner-occupied — a mix of young families and longtime residents. The surrounding valley is home to Mennonite farm families, many of whom speak Pennsylvania German. That blend of in-town buyers, Mennonite families looking for farms, shops and land, and newcomers drawn by the small-town feel makes for a strong auction crowd.
