Selling Your Home in Jersey Shore, PA
Jersey Shore sits on the West Branch Susquehanna River in western Lycoming County, about 15 miles southwest of Williamsport, with Porter Township wrapped around it and Nippenose Township across the river. The town took its name in 1826 from early settlers who came from New Jersey, and later grew as a railroad and mill town.
Rail trail town with a hometown festival
Jersey Shore is the southern gateway to the Pine Creek Rail Trail, a 65-mile crushed-stone path that follows Pine Creek north through the gorge known as the “Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania” — popular for biking, hiking and cross-country skiing. Each summer, from late June through the Fourth of July, the Jersey Shore Town Meeting fills the Thompson Street Recreation Field with rides, food stands, local bands, a grand parade and fireworks. The downtown is listed on the National Register as a historic district, and students attend the Jersey Shore Area School District.
Who’s buying here
About 4,150 people live in the borough, in roughly 1,650 households — a small town where, as locals like to say, everybody knows everybody. Across Lycoming County, nearly 70% of homes are owner-occupied. Buyers here are often local families moving up or staying close to relatives, first-time buyers looking for an affordable home with a yard, and outdoor lovers who want to live at the doorstep of the rail trail and the river.
